The Last Airbender (2010) Film Trailer Analysis
M. Night Shyamalan’s Film The Last Airbender is based off the cartoon show Avatar: The Last Airbender and is about an ongoing character called “The Avatar” who keeps the peace between the Four Nations—Water, Earth, Fire and Air. In the movie the Avatar is an Airbender named Aang who had been trapped in an iceberg for over one hundred years. During his absence, the fire nation had taken over and completely wiped out the Airbending population, and was on it’s way to doing the same to the Water and Earth Nations. In this trailer, one might consider that the Avatar could go hand in hand with the President of the United States. Like the president, he has the highest power of anyone he knows. He has the ability to control every element around him—like the president has the ability to use every resource around him. They are both alive to keep the peace and do what is best amongst their nations. This depicts the issues in American politics because without the Avatar (a good President), the nation could fall apart and be run by one Element (Electoral Party) and be based off of greed and the need for power instead of peace and what is best for the people.
